Portable solar power for hiking and camping

Portable Solar is a pretty amazing idea

I have been researching portable solar power options in the hopes that I can find one for our day hikes. We enjoy taking pictures of the natural beauty that we find. Our cell phones tend to lose battery charge quickly due to roaming for a signal. I have a compact digital camera so I need a portable solar charger that will charge two phones and the camera. I’m considering one of the two below and have added them to my Christmas wish list.

We also like to do weekend hikes if it is somewhere that we haven’t been before, so I look for ways that we can attach the solar chargers to our backpacks for easy charging. We tend to leave early  and take full advantage of the daylight. I’m excited to be able to test this type of charger out next summer. We’ve entered the rainy season and won’t be hiking until the spring.

Other Options

I’m in the process of reviewing quite a few solar power and camping products and will share what I learn, Green Batteries has a lot of  current information and options for  rechargeable batteries and accessories.  Everyone is having their 2019 Black Friday sales so now is a great time to check into portable solar power options as well as the sales for hiking and camping gear. I always wait to replace my camping and hiking gear until Black Friday.

I also have information for solar panels for a small cabin or RV here if you interested.

If you have any ideas or suggestions, please leave me a comment, I would love to chat.

    Hello,
Thanks for this post. I am on the hunt for solar myself for more portability with my gadgets.
I think a solar phone charger would be great for any time or activity other than hiking.
Having a backup battery charger that you don’t have to plugin is definitely a plus!

Having the portability is great and using the power of the sun instead of an outlet is literally power on the go.

This is fascinating! My boyfriend is a huge camper and I know he would love this. Maybe I’ll think about getting him one for Christmas. Great ideas! Thanks so much for the advice!

Hi Gin, We love camping too and that is how we discovered solar. We bought a portable solar kit for our 5th wheel so we wouldn’t have to run a generator. I’ll be doing a review on that soon.
