About Stevie

Welcome to Solar for Off-Grid Living. Moving off grid has become a goal of mine over the last ten years. My husband and I have decided that we are going to utilize some forest management property that we own to build a cabin and, of course, that led us to trying to figure out how to live comfortably up in the mountains.   I have reviewed some of the design plans for tiny homes and Texas Tiny Homes has some of my favorite ideas for the cabin and SunWay Lighting has some great solar lighting options. You can read more about our planning strategy here.

My Discovery

I have always loved camping and hiking so the idea of living off-grid in the mountains would be a dream come true. We currently live in the city and the constant chaos has become very frustrating.

We have a 5th wheel that we camp in and after purchasing a solar kit for it we discovered how well solar works. When I began my research we discovered there is solar for every application you can imagine.

My Focus

I have spent a lot of time researching the various solar products. There is everything from portable solar packs for hiking to complete solar for residential use. I want to share this information and help others save time in their research.

I haven’t done any research on residential systems, just those that are designed for hiking, camping and tiny cabins. Solar for off-grid living is easy to put together, I have a schematic here to assist in the planning.

A Changing World – Moving Off-Grid

The society that we live in is changing quickly and I know a lot of people that want to leave the hustle and bustle of the city. It is my goal to help you in finding solar systems that will work for what you need. Whether it is just a weekend hiking trip or a tiny cabin in the woods.

If you ever need a hand or have any questions, feel free to leave them below and I will be more than happy to try to help you out.

Happy Camping,

Stevie

Hi Stevie, living in the nature and mountains has also been a dream of mine for quite a while, and I too am tired of the hustle and bustle life of the city. Indeed it seems more and more people are feeling this way.
Thank you for your post, I would be interested in reading more.

Hi Stevie, I think solar energy is a great renewable energy source with backup generators for housing to solar ovens that people are using to cook their entire dinners with.

With the increasing acceptance by customers converting from electric companies to solar power for their entire homes, have you seen or read of any lawsuits by either side against the other?

    1. Stevie says:

Hi Bob, I haven’t learned of any lawsuits but I do know that some utility companies insist that you back feed power into the grid and they will give you credits on your power bill. California is currently dealing with blackouts and I’ve been told that even the homes with solar power have been affected. So if that is true and the utility companies keep doing that, I’m sure we’ll see a lawsuit or two against them.
